Three Graces

Mahealani was born on the night of the full moon, with her beautiful name meaning just that. This wonderful lady travelled all the way from Northern California to have us depict the huge transition she is currently experiencing. Having moving out of the city to rural northern California and bought land to farm, she now lives with the turn of the seasons, embracing natural patterns...  thus enabling her to find her true voice and expression and to be at home in herself. To celebrate change and not resist. To let go. This has brought a deeper acceptance and celebration of feminine power and energy and acceptance of the dark within and without. "Be joyful though you have considered all the facts"...  to not ignore or bury the dark but rather celebrate with all eyes and hearts open.

Mahea also runs NeonRasperry Arthouse, a gallery in California showcasing socially conscious art...more info here

universal flow

Since childhood, Brussels based Lien has always wanted to be a whale. For her this magnificently beautiful creature represents a strong feeling of freedom and peace. As a vegetarian, she cares deeply about nature and the environment, with the design symbolising the movement in life and Lien's freedom and love for this earth.

where the wild things are

For Gül, travel symbolises dedication to life. Travelling from one place, from one idea, dream, story, experience or experiment to another, in order to discover, to live, and to fulfill the purpose of life.  Filled with awe in the face of this wondrous universe and the little things in it, she aspires to live and to share that life with others; but nevertheless has the courage to carry the absence of those things that have become part of her,  like visible signs of separation - in order to pursue a life of growth and discovery. We wish her all the best on her future travels and look forward to our paths crossing again.

lighthousekeeping

Lovely Stef travelled from the Highlands of Scotland to have us depict her fascination with lighthouses, compasses, and the book that changed her life - 'Lighthousekeeping' by Jeanette Winterson.  As the deep diver for her feelings, Winterson's poetic prose and stories play a vital part in Stef's life.

“There it is; the light across the water. Your story. Mine. His. It has to be seen to be believed. And it has to be heard. In the endless babble of narrative, in spite of the daily noise, the story waits to be heard.

Some people say that the best stories have no words. They weren't brought up to Lighthousekeeping. It is true that words drop away, and that the important things are often left unsaid. The important things are learned in faces, in gestures, not in our locked tongues. The true things are too big or too small, or in any case is always the wrong size to fit in the template called language.”

le fou dans le soleil

The below piece is based on the 'fou' tarot card symbolising this lovely gentleman's non-conforming attitude to life.

Having walked a path different to most, which led to both mistakes and realisation, Alex is a spirit in search of experience. As the 'real world' nips at his heels he feels more akin to the 'crazy' than the bourgeois.

Acknowledging the micro/macro view of the cosmos and fascinated by the infinite, he feels an affinity with 'the fool's' holy madness and ability to tune into the inner workings of the world.

mensch

Milano Tattoo Convention 2014

Ben contacted us about the Jewish concept of "mensch", which he described to be a virtuous, upstanding man, with a high level of awareness of right and wrong who won't hesitate to go through difficulties, physically or spiritually when it's the right thing to do. Despite being an atheist, the concept is part of his roots and has been important to Ben throughout his life particularly regarding his Jewish mother during her final years.
The tattoo depicts Ben's relation to this concept - learning to accept his feelings after years of burying away in his subconscious, to let them grow without being controlled by them...to find a middle ground, a balance. Much like his view of the world - ruled by emotions and individual decisions rather than a global vision, like a ship without a captain or too many captains. To improve the world we have to improve ourselves individually, to cultivate personal feelings and go beyond them to do what is morally right for the greater good.
