As a big fan of biology and technology, Julien's tattoo depicts the constant battle between the two conflicting aspects of his personality. The organic, fluid, intuitive, vs the cold, logical, rational...these opposing sides working together to create both a necessary and inspiring duality.

German poet, Walter inspired us greatly with his focus on phonology, semantics and his ability to physically feel words. Using parts of his poems we depicted the main focus of his poetry- the importance of the phonetic structure and the spoken word... semantics stimulating cognition whilst the sound of the language evokes emotion.  Exploring the ability of the hands to functionally transform your mind into written language, and illustrating both his relationship to music and its influence on his poetry as well as the music of the language itself.

roots to wings

Brasilian Marina travelled from Italy where she has spent the last eight years studying arts and architecture. An important cycle in her life is about to close as she returns to her native land where she spent her childhood days developing a strong affinity with nature whilst immersed in her surreal and magical world.

Often dreaming that she is lost in a strange place speaking a strange language, she feels as though she is two halves of a whole - the organic and emotional and the geometric and rational. The tattoo represents  the union of these two worlds.

L'illumination du Roi sans Divertissement

The below piece is a follow up to the metaphor by Blaise Pascal: "A king without entertainment is a man full of miseries."

This symbolic sentence was transposed by Jean Giono in his book of the same name which sees the king committing suicide to escape the misery of our earthly existence.
"Nothing is so intolerable to man as being in a full rest, without passions, without business, without entertainment, without applying. He then feels his nothingness, his abandonment, his failure, his addiction, his helplessness, his emptiness. Incontinent from the depths of his soul: boredom, darkness, sadness, grief, vexation, despair. "
Don inspired us greatly with his concept to grant the king the optimistic opportunity to live a second happier chapter to this metaphor of existential boredom.

The piece sees us represent the 'blast" as the borders between man, nature and the universe are abolished. The ego of the King dissolves into the beauty and energies of the cosmos:  he awakens. His fears of death and emptiness are erased in the world's spirit.
    Ma tête porte
    L'être des étoiles
    Ma poitrine abrite
    La vie des planètes
    Mon corps puise son être
    Dans l'être des éléments
    Tout cela je le suis.

    Rudolf Steiner

Huge thanks to Don for providing us with this spectacularly inspiring concept.

set the bar

This piece tells the tale of champion pole vaulter turned fixed gear biker Eddy's love of screen printing, anaglyph and the importance of family and the focus to reach your goals.
We portrayed Eddy's strong connection to his parents, his affinity with the mighty rhino's athletic ability and strong family ties - with his mother's hand as the protectress as he sails on his journey through life.

origin of the species

The below piece symbolises Nathan's love of nature and fascination with life, its complexities and our origin. Inspired by Charles Darwin, the design depicts his voyage of discovery to the Galapagos which shaped his revolutionary theory of evolution.
